You work with Bullhorn or are currently evaluating it, and you are wondering whether it suits your recruitment agency. Three questions matter most for the decision: what the AI at Bullhorn costs, where the data is stored and how much effort a switch involves. All information about Bullhorn comes from public Bullhorn pages, and the sources are listed at the end.
Our assessment: For recruitment consultants and headhunters who want to work with AI at the centre, Sourge, the AI CRM for recruitment consultants and headhunters, is the better Bullhorn alternative, regardless of the size of your agency. Sourge is built around AI and agents from the start. You work in the chat and, where needed, in the CRM and ATS, the market radar opens up new business opportunities, and the data is stored on servers in Zurich. Bullhorn has existed since 1999, the AI was added later and now runs via Amplify, Bullhorn's AI package, which in the plans for small staffing providers is only available from Pro.
The table compares both systems side by side. After that, we show what Bullhorn can do and what it costs, where it reaches its limits, what Sourge does differently, who benefits from switching and how the switch works.

What can Bullhorn do?
Bullhorn has focused on recruiting for over 25 years and says it has over 10,000 customers. From Core upwards there is a marketplace with over 300 partners and LinkedIn integrations. Starter and Core have public prices and free implementation. According to Bullhorn, small staffing providers are productive in under two weeks.
What does Bullhorn cost?
All prices are per user and month. The US prices exclude VAT, while the German pricing page gives no information on this.
Plan | German pricing page | US pricing page | What is included |
|---|---|---|---|
Starter | 85 EUR | 99 USD | according to Bullhorn for 1 to 2 users; ATS, CV parsing, client management |
Core | 115 EUR | 165 USD | Marketplace, custom fields and workflows, LinkedIn integrations |
Pro | Price on request | Price on request | Recruitment CRM, AI search, Amplify Chat, enrichment, analytics |
Max | Price on request | Price on request | agentic screening and matching, multi step AI outreach |
According to the German pricing page, three recruiters on Core cost 345 EUR per month. Bullhorn does not currently offer a free trial, but it does offer a demo. Contract term and price adjustments on renewal are not stated on the pricing page, so have both confirmed in writing.
Where does Bullhorn reach its limits?
The AI came later. Amplify is Bullhorn's AI package, which is added to the existing system. Amplify with AI search, the AI chat Amplify Chat and enrichment only comes with Pro, and agentic workflows with Max. Bullhorn offers Search and Match as a separately priced add on product. According to Bullhorn, Amplify Chat runs directly in Bullhorn. Our assessment: at Bullhorn, AI is an extension and not the central layer, like a car to which a new part is bolted on instead of being built around the new technology.
Bullhorn also serves very large organisations. Bullhorn states that 80 percent of the world's largest staffing providers trust the platform. Beyond Max there are plans such as Front Office Growth, Front Office Enterprise and Bullhorn One. According to the German website, Bullhorn offers middle and back office for temporary staffing in North America. Our assessment: Bullhorn is geared more towards large organisations and temporary staffing.
In Starter and Core, you work without Amplify in list views and workflows. Our assessment: this leaves the work with your team. You click a lot and maintain much by hand, which is time missing from conversations with clients and candidates.
The AI costs more than the base price. The public prices of 85 and 115 EUR apply to Starter and Core, both without Amplify. The AI functions of Amplify are only included in the Pro plan, with price on request. Bullhorn also lists Amplify Digital Workers and Amplify Search and Match as separate products, with quotes on request.
The data location remains open. Bullhorn does not state the storage location on the pages reviewed. The privacy policy governs transfers from Switzerland to the USA through standard contractual clauses and the Swiss U.S. Data Privacy Framework.
What does Sourge do differently?
Sourge is an AI native platform, with AI and agents as the central layer. Our assessment: that is exactly why Sourge gets more out of AI. You give instructions in the chat, as you would to an assistant, or with one click. Where necessary, you work directly in the CRM and ATS, because candidates, companies and roles are in one system. Both layers access the same database.
The starting point can be a candidate or a company. Matching runs from candidate to role and from role to candidate, with every suggestion explained. The market radar continuously brings open roles from the entire market into the system, including at companies with no previous connection. If a role fits one of your candidates, it becomes a reason to call. If your network is not enough for a role, Sourge keeps searching the market.
Agents prepare CVs, candidate profiles and shortlists, even overnight. Email, WhatsApp and LinkedIn come together in one inbox, and Sourge assigns each message to the candidate, client or role. You decide what goes out automatically.
What this means day to day: agents handle research, matching and preparation, and Sourge assigns each message, which is the work you previously had to take care of yourself. You give instructions in the chat or with one click, stay informed and make the decisions. Our assessment: you click significantly less in the system. The time you gain belongs to conversations: calls, meetings and the personal contact in which trust with clients and candidates is built.
The data is stored on servers in Zurich, the infrastructure is ISO 27001 certified and SOC 2 Type 2 audited. The interface is available in German, English, French and Italian. Sourge does not yet cover invoicing and time tracking, so for that you need a system with integrated invoicing.
Who is Sourge a good Bullhorn alternative for?
Our assessment: for recruitment consultants and headhunters who want to work with AI at the centre. In concrete terms, that means:
You want to click less and have more time for calls and meetings with clients and candidates.
You want to work in the chat and, where necessary, in the CRM and ATS, in the same system.
You want new business opportunities from your database: the market radar continuously connects open roles with your candidates.
You want to see why a candidate fits with every match.
Your clients ask where the candidate data is stored, and you want to be able to answer Zurich.
Bullhorn is built for large organisations with temporary staffing in North America that need middle and back office in the same system.
You can find an overview of eleven systems with data location, AI and languages in our comparison Recruiting software for recruitment agencies compared 2027.
How do you switch from Bullhorn?
The switch takes four steps:
Review your contract: clarify the notice period, renewal date and number of licences. You cancel your existing contract yourself, and the switch depends on your deadlines.
Choose an export: according to the Bullhorn help, the CSV export from the list view is suitable for a few thousand records. Depending on permissions, 5,000 to 20,000 records per export are possible. For larger volumes there is the REST API, which according to the help article is available for the Front Office Growth and Enterprise editions. A full copy including files is provided by a data backup, which account or support contacts can request. According to the help, Bullhorn does not log exports, so only give the permission to trusted people.
Match the structure: Sourge reads the export files, maps the fields and shows you what goes where before the import. Sourge cleans up duplicates during the import, and we present anything unclear to you for a decision (Migration).
Switch over: set a cut off date, connect email, WhatsApp and LinkedIn, and check that notes, documents and open roles have arrived completely.
